Green Roofs

Green infrastructure including green roofs provide many benefits to buildings and the built environment including increasing the appeal of their buildings as well as cooling surrounding temperatures and reducing storm water runoff. Modern green roofs come in a wide range of varieties from extensive sometimes modular light weight and thin systems to heavy intensive tree planters and large depth systems. Regardless of the system, proper drainage, roof protection, and structural evaluation for the added loading is critical to the success of the project. A Structural Engineer can review the existing or new building drawings to provide the design team with information regarding the structural systems excess capacity for additional green roof loading and options for providing additional structural capacity when needed.
